- The commercial version of TCOMM come in two flavors. First, you can
- purchase TCOMM and receive a single user copy of the software.
- Second, you can purchase TCOMMnet and receive a multiuser copy of
- the TCOMM software. These two versions are described below:
-
-
- TCOMM version 3.0
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- TCOMM version 3.0 has the following features in addition to the
- features contained in the User Supported Version:
-
- o The system is further modularized and requires less random
- access memory so that it can be operated as a background task
- under a multitasking environment such as DESQview, DoubleDOS or
- Microsoft Windows.
-
- o The software will work with non-Hayes compatible modems that
- have autoanswer capability.
-
- o You can elect to have an external program of your choice execute
- every night after midnight to perform special file or data base
- maintenance.
-
- o You can elect to have an external program of your choice execute
- after a caller logs into the system based on the new user status
- of the caller.
-
- o You can elect to have ANSI color graphics versions of system
- text and help files to enhance the displays for callers with
- ANSI termin+al emulation software (For example, ProComm or
- Qmodem).
-
- o You can specify that callers are not allowed to delete messages
- so all messages remain active until the System Operator deletes
- them (this is good for software or hardware support where you
- want messages left for all callers to read for a long period of
- time).
-
- o You can specify the free disk space that must remain while
- message and file activities are in progress to simplify
- system file maintenance and to ensure total integrity off all
- activity log and archive files.
-
- o You can control access to the Open group so callers are locked
- into groups to ensure full separation of callers into registered
- groups (this is a must when more than one private group uses the
- system and communication between the groups is strictly
- prohibited).
-
- o Significantly faster mail index and user data base searches and
- updates are provided.
-
- o The system configuration profile is subdivided into logical
- parameter groups to make the system easier to use for the System
- Operator.
-
- o The System Operator can force the system to scan for system
- bulletins that have been added or updated since the caller was
- on the system last before the caller is allowed access to the
- main menu (this is an important feature when the system is used
- for company mail or for software/hardware support and you want
- callers to be aware of the latest bulletin changes).
-
- o The system will automatically switch from expert mode to novice
- mode if the user needs additional help thereby providing a user
- interface that matches the skills of each user individually.
-
- o Additional file display and processing interrupt and abort
- features are supported that emulate mini and mainframe computer
- systems (Control-C and Break signal).
-
- o Enhanced system log messages are provided that provide the
- System Operator with better system operation information.
-
- o The system allows callers with the proper security level to
- change groups at the Mail command menu as well as the Change
- command menu--this reduces the burden of going through several
- menu levels just to change groups.
-
- o Remotely executable programs are displayed locally for the
- system operator and will accept local keyboard input.
-
-
- o The following feature are also provided:
-
- - Fully stacked commands
-
- - Message forwarding
-
- - Message threading
-
- - Message backward reading
-
- - Rereading of same message
-
- - Date specification for New files search command
-
- - Message reference number is displayed for Replied to
- messages
-
- - Seperate directory is provided for File Menus, resulting in
- faster searches for filenames or character strings
-
- - Specification of an unlimited (time) download directory is
- supported
-
- - Local Exit to DOS is alloed while user is online
-
- - Local User Maintenance is allowed while user is online
-
- - A file called GOODBYE is displayed before user logs off and
- this file can be customized by the system operator
-
- - An Option is provided to prompt the user for a private
- Comment at logoff
-
- - Execution of LOGOFF.BAT (if present) after user logs off
- is provided to allow the execution of special system
- operator programs
-
- - A file called ONLINE.TC is maintained by TCOMM and contains
- all information for current user(s) which can be accessed
- by External programs.
-
- - Modem speeds from 300 to 19200 bps are supported
-
- - The Packet Switched Network CTS/RTS protocol is supported
- which allows data flow control
-
- - An optional fixed speed modem interface is provided for
- high speed modems
-
- - Mail check is executed when a user changes groups online
-
- - Public groups will default to Open Group directories if
- directories for the specified group do not exist
-
- - An external program can be run at a specified time during
- the day or night
-
- - A user listing within a private group list only the
- users belonging to that group.
-
-
- TCOMMnet ver 3.0
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- TCOMMnet version 3.0 has the following features in addition to the
- features contained in TCOMM version 3.0:
-
- o Full multiuser file sharing support that is based on PC-DOS and
- MS-DOS version 3.0 and higher SHARE capabilities (this makes the
- file locking and record locking independent of the multitasking
- software or local area network hardware/software used with the
- TCOMMnet).
-
- o Compatibility with the PC-MOS multitasking software such that
- two copies of TCOMMnet could be operated with two different
- communication ports simultaneously.
-
- o Full local area network electronic mail support that does not
- require the use of modems or serial ports.
-
- o Compatibility with the IBM PC Network and IBM Token-Ring
- hardware running under the PC LAN or Novell NetWare local
- area network software.
-
-
- TCOMM and TCOMMnet Support
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Software support is provided on a data line using TCOMM until
- further notice. Please use a smart terminal software package such as
- Smartcom, CROSSTALK, or PC-TALK to dial into the system at 300,
- 1200 or 2400 bps. If you get a busy signal, use the automatic
- redial capability of the communications software to redial the
- number until you get an answer. You may have to redial for up to 15
- minutes on a busy day. After you have become a registered TCOMM
- owner, you will be given access to the TCOMM owner's private group
- where you can exchange ideas and comments with the TCOMM authors
- and other TCOMM owners. Special TCOMM utility programs and files
- are also available for download. The support data line is as
